Donny’s New Album & App For 50 Showbiz Years
Donny Osmond will mark 50 years in showbusiness with a new album featuring a cameo by Stevie Wonder and covers of the songs that have, as the title says, been the ‘Soundtrack Of My Life.’
The Verve album, set for January 2015 release, will comprise covers of songs by Wonder, Peter Gabriel, Michael Jackson and others that have been touchstones in Osmond’s life and career. Stevie himself plays harmonica on Donny’s new version of ‘My Cherie Amour,’ the first single Donny ever bought. He reclaims ‘Ben,’ the Don Black/Walter Scharf song that was intended for Osmond but, with him away on tour in the growing Osmondmania of the time, was offered to Jackson instead.
The new set will also feature Peter Gabriel’s ‘Don’t Give Up,’ a song Donny’s wife would play him during his career ebb of the 1980s, and Elton John’s ‘Your Song,’ which Donny heard Elton singing in concert at the point he realised he would marry his wife. The album will also feature three original songs on a set that encapsulates the life and times of an artist who’s sold 100 million records.
To preview the release, Osmond has just launched an app which will feature the stories behind the songs, and a short preview clip of each one. “After 50 years of entertaining, I wanted to do something unique to celebrate a milestone in my career, as well as the launch of my 60th album,” he said. “This app was designed to share the music that has affected me throughout the years. These are more than just great songs; each holds personal significance to a long-lasting career. In essence, these songs are the soundtrack of my life…so far.”
