Reba McEntire To Receive Inaugural ‘Career Maker’ Award

Reba McEntire has spent her career taking the best of Nashville’s tunesmiths and making them into hits, so it’s only fitting that the Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame is honouring the country icon with its inaugural ‘Career Maker Award’ during the 48th annual Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala, on Sunday, 28 October.

From her first chart single ‘I Don’t Want to Be a One Night Stand’ and throughout her career, McEntire has recorded over 80 songs that have been written or co-written by members of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, shared songwriter Pat Alger, the chairman of the Hall of Fame’s board of directors.

“[Reba] has supported songwriters throughout her career and was one of the first industry leaders to help the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame build our Hall of Fame Gallery at the Music City Center”, said Alger upon the announcement.

“Her Hall of Fame career as an artist has in turn helped create so many other Hall of Fame careers for songwriters. Once she chooses your song and puts her inimitable stamp on it, you begin to understand why you became a songwriter in the first place. She is indisputably a great singer who continues to transform a diverse catalogue of songs into works of art of the highest order. Simply put, when Reba sings your song, it’s not likely to get any better than that.”

McEntire is also getting her due at the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors in December, following the last honouree before her to represent the genre, which was Merle Haggard in 2010 . She’ll be joined by fellow honourees pianist Philip Glass, jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter and Cher.

The full list of inductees into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame will be announced next month while the Kennedy Center Honors gala will air on December 26 on CBS in the US.
