Switchfoot Set To Step Into 2019 With ‘Native Tongue’

Grammy-winning Californian rock outfit Switchfoot will release their 11th full-length album Native Tongue on 18 January on Fantasy Records. They’ll start the North American leg of the tour of the same name soon afterwards, with an opening date in Asheville, North Carolina on 14 February. Opening acts on the tour will be Colony House and Tyson Motsenbocker.

The album is being previewed by the title track, which was written by Switchfoot’s frontman and bassist Tim Foreman with Brent Kutzle of One Republic. Watch the music video for the track here:

“These are polarising times, where the loudest voice is often the voice of anger or fear,” says Foreman. “This album is an attempt to sing that hope into life. To bring a group of diverse songs under one common banner. Hatred is not your native language. Love is your Native Tongue.”

The 14-song album was recorded chiefly at Melody League Studios in the band’s home town, San Diego. It includes another writing collaboration  and co-production with their friends One Republic, ‘Voices.’ Other highlights include ‘Prodigal Soul,’ ‘Joy Invincible’ and a collaboration with Kaela Sinclair on ‘The Hardest Art.’

Native Tongue is the next chapter in a career of more than 20 years, the last instalment of which saw Switchfoot score their fourth US top ten album, and third in a row, with the 2016 release Where The Light Shines Through. The band were formed in 1997, when their first album The Legend Of Chin became the first in a series of independent successes.

Ahead of the North American itinerary starting in February, the band have a New Year’s Eve date in Virginia Beach, VA. The extensive tour includes a 17 February stop at Nashville’s hallowed Ryman Auditorium and another on 5 April at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. It’s due to conclude in Vancouver, British Columbia on 13 April.
