‘Ultimate Sinatra’ Arrives In April

Published on

As celebrations of Frank Sinatra’s life and career continue in the build-up to the centenary of his birth on December 12, Capitol/Universal Music has announced the April 21 worldwide release of the new, multi-format ‘Ultimate Sinatra’ collection. It will, for the first time, present key recordings spanning his Columbia, Capitol and Reprise years, and all of the CD and digital editions will also feature previously unreleased Sinatra recordings.

The collection will be available in 25-track CD, 26-track digital, 24-track 180-gram heavyweight 2LP vinyl and deluxe 101-track 4CD and digital editions. The latter deluxe versions will add further bonus tracks via the included digital download vouchers. The compilation can be pre-ordered now from Amazon, iTunes and Google Play.

All of the various configurations of the set open with ‘All Or Nothing At All,’ recorded with Harry James and his Orchestra on August 31, 1939 during Sinatra’s first studio session. The single CD, packed with Sinatra classics, concludes with a previously unreleased alternate version of ‘Just In Time.’

The 4CD and digital deluxe editions contain 100 tracks to mark 100 years, ending with a previously unreleased rehearsal version of ‘The Surrey With The Fringe On Top,’ recorded in 1979. The bonus EP available via the download voucher offers unreleased, alternate versions of ‘What is This Thing Called Love?,’ ‘Just In Time,’ ‘Guess I’ll Hang My Tears Out To Dry’ and the orchestral ‘That’s Life.’

The deluxe edition also features an 80-page booklet with a new essay by Sinatra historian and author Charles Pignone, as well as rare photos and quotes from Frank Sinatra, his children, Nancy, Tina and Frank Jr., as well as other notable collaborators such as Nelson Riddle, Billy May and Quincy Jones.

This year’s expansive Sinatra celebrations also include a new stage show, exhibitions, music, video and book releases, special partnerships, major television and film events along with a host of independent tributes and concerts. The FRANK SINATRA 100 App, free to download for for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and Android tablets, continues to offer continuous updates on official Sinatra centennial activities.

I entered my code, have tried to download the file twice, and twice it hasn’t worked. For some reason, it’s a 218 MB file (For 4 songs?), it hits 187 MB and just cancels itself. A lucky thing that I’m only missing one track from the releases. Anyone with a voucher for this set, don’t waste your time trying to retrieve your extra tracks.
