Ethan French Releases Extended ‘Reckless And Arranged’
The song began as a minute-long sketch shared through French’s daily social media series.
Australian artist Ethan French has released an extended version of “reckless and arranged – day 56,” ahead of his forthcoming project ideas of the day vol. 1. The eight-song collection is due October 2 and grew out of French’s “Idea A Day” series, which has seen the Perth native write and share a new piece of music on social media every day.

“reckless and arranged – day 56” began in May as a minute-long sketch created for the daily series. The response led French to develop the idea into a full track, while Kerri Chandler and T-Pain both created remixes. French said the reaction went beyond what he had expected. “This idea kinda changed my life,” he said, pointing to the remixes, instrumental covers, and online responses that followed the original post. “It doesn’t even feel like it’s mine anymore, the internet owns it!”
The daily series grew out of an earlier plan to make “chords of the day” videos for musicians. French changed course after deciding that format was not serving his creative process and began posting short, unfinished musical ideas instead. That approach ultimately provided the material for ideas of the day vol. 1, whose eight songs were written, tracked, and mixed during the daily practice. French, who grew up on Australia’s west coast and later studied composition at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, has said the process taught him to put less pressure on individual ideas and avoid overworking them.
The extended track follows “it takes a lifetime – day 58,” which French released in August as an earlier preview of ideas of the day vol. 1. In June, T-Pain opened his Red Rocks set with his remix of “reckless and arranged – day 56.” French’s “Idea A Day” series has also drawn attention from John Mayer, Justin Timberlake, Jon Batiste, Anderson .Paak, Tom Misch, and SZA, while his Instagram following has grown beyond 850,000.
