Guns N’ Roses have unleashed an absolute juggernaut of an unreleased recording: a studio version of ‘Shadow Of Your Love’, taken from a long-lost December 1986 recording session with Appetite For Destruction producer Mike Clink.

Dating back to the days of Hollywood Rose – the 80s LA group that, at one point, included four out of five future GN’R members, Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler – the song, captured while the band honed the material that would feature on their legendary debut album, Appetite For Destruction, rips along at a breakneck pace. Axl Rose’s unmistakably wall-crumbling vocals and the band’s utterly unfettered performance encapsulates everything that made GN’R such a magnetic force in the mid-80s.

This recording of ‘Shadow Of Your Love’ is the first taster of the rarities and unreleased material to be found on the eye-poppingly huge Appetite For Destruction box set, due for release on 29 June. Christened Appetite For Destruction: Locked N’ Loaded Edition, the 4CD+Blu-ray box set comes in a 12” x 12” x 12” solid wood box featuring not only a remastered version of the album, but also a remastered disc of B-sides and EP tracks; the previously unreleased 1986 Sound City session, from which ‘Shadow Of Your Love’ is taken; early demos of the GN’R classic ‘November Rain’; plus seven 7”s (the album’s five original singles, with additional 7”s for ‘Patience’ and ‘Shadow Of Your Love’) and a host of ephemera, including lithographs, replica flyers, patches, a turntable slipmat – and much, much more.

As the band prepare to re-emerge locked n’ loaded for the summer 2018 leg of their Not In This Lifetime… tour, the Locked N’ Loaded box set looks set to become the last word in this period in Guns N’ Roses history, standing as a monumental tribute to the legendary album that not only put Guns N’ Roses on the map, but which changed the face of rock music forever.

The Appetite For Destruction: Locked N’ Loaded Edition box set is out on 29 June and can be pre-ordered here.
