Tame Impala emerged into the music scene around Perth some years ago, signing to the Modular label and releasing a self-titled debut EP in 2008, followed by the single ‘Sundown Syndrome.’ Their first album, ‘Innerspeaker,’ appeared in 2010, followed by the sophomore release ‘Lonerism’ in late 2012.
The second album prompted great success at Australia’s 2013 ARIA Awards, at which Tame Impala were named Best Group,’ and ‘Lonerism’ won both Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. They were also nominated for Best Live Act, Engineer and Producer of the Year and Best Cover Art.
Both of the band’s albums reached No. 4 on the Australian charts, and both records were certified gold there. ‘Lonerism’ led to an international breakthrough that included a No. 14 peak in the UK and No. 34 on the Billboard 200. Tame Impala are playing the Coachella Festival tonight (10) and next Friday, followed by an extensive tour of America and Canada that includes Lollapalooza. They then have European dates in August and September.
