Horace Silver’s The Stylings Of Silver is set for a single-LP reissue in Blue Note’s Classic Vinyl Reissue Series. The edition presents the pianist’s 1957 hard bop album in mono, with all-analog mastering from the original master tapes.

Silver leads a quintet featuring Art Farmer on trumpet, Hank Mobley on tenor saxophone, Teddy Kotick on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums. The lineup places trumpet and tenor saxophone alongside Silver’s piano, supported by Kotick and Hayes in the rhythm section.

The six-song set introduced Silver originals including “No Smokin’,” “Soulville,” and “Home Cookin’.” Those compositions document his work as both a writer and bandleader, with the quintet providing the setting for his material.

The reissue is mastered by Kevin Gray and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Optimal. Curated by Don Was and Cem Kurosman, Blue Note’s Classic Vinyl Reissue Series draws from different periods of the label’s catalog through themed selections, encompassing styles including bebop, hard bop, soul jazz, and post-bop.
