Jack Johnson Celebrates 20 Years of ‘In Between Dreams’
A limited edition of the Hawaiian singer-songwriter’s third album arrives on yellow vinyl and features dreamy songs like ‘Banana Pancakes.’

Jack Johnson has announced a 20th anniversary edition of his acclaimed album In Between Dreams. The limited edition yellow vinyl is available for pre-order now.
In Between Dreams was the Hawaiin pop-rock musician’s third studio album. Johnson reunited with longtime Beastie Boys producer Mario Caldato Jr., after previously working together on 2003’s On and On. He said in an interview that the title was a reference to peaceful downtime. “Tours are like dreams — these surreal adventures I go on,” Johnson explained. “But my reality is back home in Hawai’i. It’s where I feel like my normal self. I love touring and doing all of this exciting stuff. But when I was recording the record back in my garage in Hawai’i I was in between two dreams (or) tours.”
“It’s also a lyric out of the first song ‘Better Together,’” he added. “I feel like it sums up the feel of the record a bit. It’s supposed to be kind of dreamy.” The album also includes chill acoustic songs like “Banana Pancakes” and “Constellations.”
Johnson’s most recent record is 2022’s Meet the Moonlight, created alongside producer Blake Mills. The album was led by the single “One Step Ahead,” a song about how technology has affected communication.
Last year, Johnson announced the newest winners of his All At Once Sustainability Awards family, in support of his Meet the Moonlight World Tour. Established in 2013, the award was created to honor venues, festivals, and promoters who excelled in sustainability initiatives and made every effort to meet Johnson’s industry-leading Environmental Rider through waste reduction, plastic-free programs, energy conservation, climate solutions through touring, and more.
In 2023, Johnson released his third live album, Songs for Maui, a benefit record to support those affected by the fires. Featuring Hawaii’s own Paula Fuga and John Cruz, the ten-track collection of chart-topping songs recorded live on location at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s Castle Theater during Johnson’s 2012 Hawaiian Islands tour.
