‘Casual Crime’ Previews Lyn Lapid’s Next Project
The song follows ‘one good thing’ and previews a forthcoming project with electro-pop production.
Lyn Lapid has released “casual crime,” a new single about the aftermath of losing a close relationship. The track follows “one good thing,” which arrived earlier this year. The release is accompanied by an official music video.

On “casual crime,” Lapid describes being drawn back toward someone even when the relationship has become painful. The song’s narrator turns inward, caught in a restless spiral, before the chorus lands on the line “some things we’ll never talk about.” Lapid said the song grew from the difficulty of no longer sharing everyday news with someone who once mattered. “Life goes on, but it’s strange to no longer be able to update that person on the small and big things that happen in your life,” she said. “It’s bittersweet because you do still miss that person, but you realize there’s nothing to be done to have that person back in your life.”
Lapid says “casual crime” and “one good thing” introduce a forthcoming project that pairs her singer-songwriter approach with electro-pop production. The announcement does not give a release date or title for the project. Both songs follow her 2025 debut album, BUZZKILL, and its deluxe edition, BUZZKILL (forever). Lapid toured North America in support of the album in 2025, then joined Alex Warren’s Cheaper Than Therapy Tour.
Lapid first drew attention in 2020 through ukulele covers posted to TikTok. She released her debut album after a series of EPs, including to love in the 21st century and its extended edition, the epilogue. Her breakout single “In My Mind” is RIAA Gold-certified. Lapid is a Filipino American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose catalog includes collaborations with mxmtoon, Whethan, Ruth B, and grentperez.
