Mariah Carey has released a restored true 4K version of her “Loverboy Remix” music video as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of Glitter. Directed by David LaChapelle and featuring Da Brat, Ludacris, Shawnna and Twenty II, the visual has been reconstructed from its original 35mm film elements while preserving the 2001 edit.

LaChapelle filmed both “Loverboy” and “Loverboy Remix” at LA County Raceway in May 2001. To restore the remix video, the team scanned the original, unassembled film frame by frame in true 4K using a Lasergraphics Director, then rebuilt the edit shot by shot. A new color grade brings out the film’s dynamic range and previously unseen details while retaining the original pacing and performances. The restoration also marks the video’s first availability in digital format and on streaming platforms since its original release.

“Loverboy Remix” opens Glitter, Carey’s eighth studio album and the soundtrack to the film of the same name. Drawing on the movie’s 1983 setting, the record combines dance-pop, funk, hip-hop and R&B. Its singles included “Loverboy,” “Never Too Far” and “Don’t Stop (Funkin’ 4 Jamaica).” The album later became the focus of the fan-led #JusticeForGlitter campaign, which helped send it to No. 1 on the iTunes albums chart in 2018.

The anniversary plans also include an expanded Digital Deluxe Edition of Glitter, which will return to all streaming platforms with 15 additional tracks. Those additions include material from Carey’s personal vault and new collaborations with Rochelle Jordan and Channel Tres.
