Richard Thompson has announced a short Irish tour for August 2018. Support comes from The Lock-Ups and full details of the dates can be seen below. Tickets for all the shows are now on sale.

As uDiscover Music recently reported, Thompson is also set to embark on his extensive, 13 Rivers UK tour during the autumn of 2018. The 19-date trek kicks off on 11 October at Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall and concludes with a show at The New Victoria Theatre in Woking on 3 November. The tour also includes a London show at The Barbican on 16 October. Support on all these dates comes from Joan Shelley.

As well as his upcoming tour, Thompson’s brand new studio album is due to be released later this year on Proper Records. During a busy 2017, Thompson released two volumes of acoustic recordings: Acoustic Classics Vol. II featuring acoustic renderings of classic songs from the Richard Thompson catalogue and Acoustic Rarities featuring new recordings of some of the more obscure songs in his repertoire.

During 2017, Thompson also celebrated the 50th anniversary of Fairport Convention, the ground-breaking folk-rock ensemble he co-founded as a teenager in the ‘60s, with a performance at the band’s much-acclaimed annual Cropredy Festival.

Hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Thompson is one of the world’s most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters. He has received multiple awards, including Lifetime Achievement Awards at the BBC Folk Awards and the US and UK Americana Music Association Awards, as well as Mojo’s Les Paul Award and an Ivor Novello Award for song writing. Thompson was appointed OBE in the 2011 New Year Honours List. Robert Plant, R.E.M., Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, Christy Moore and many others have recorded his songs.

Richard Thompson plays the following Irish dates:

Wednesday, 15 August: Belfast, Empire Music Hall
Thursday, 16 August: Dublin, National Concert Hall
Friday, 17 August: Cork, Live @ St. Luke’s.
