Selena Gomez has just dropped a digital, deluxe edition of her best-selling album, Rare, featuring a new song, ‘Boyfriend’, two previously-unreleased tracks – ‘She’ and ‘Souvenir’ – plus the longtime fan favourite, ‘Feel Me’, which was released as a surprise digital bonus in February. Lyric videos for all four tracks are also available to stream. Additionally, new ‘Boyfriend’ merchandise has been added to Gomez’s official online store, while one dollar from every item purchased on the site will benefit PLUS1 COVID-19 Relief Fund. This excludes ‘Dance Again’ merchandise, which instead benefits the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.

Released in January, the highly-anticipated Rare marked Gomez’s comeback album, following her 2015 LP, Revival. In the time between her second and third studio albums, Gomez overcame physical and mental health issues, while coming into her own as an artist, singer and Hollywood producer.

In an interview with NPR, Gomez discussed the meaning behind her album’s title, explaining that, “The word has meant so much more to me than just a title of a song. We live in a time where everything is based on your looks and social media and there are so many different channels telling people what they should look like, and how they should do this, do that. And I want to represent a person that is just saying ‘You are who are; you’re unique and you’re rare.’”

Rare was worth the wait. The album debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200, while topping the album charts in Canada, Australia and Mexico. Rare also became Gomez’s first LP to peak in the U.K.’s Top Ten, landing at No.2, just above Lewis Capaldi’s record-breaking Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.

Critics loved Rare as well. Rolling Stone called it, “An act of divine ruthlessness, full of dance-y, mid-tempo clarity,” while Pitchfork described the album as, “A smooth and confident pop record that delves deep…into heartbreak, resilience, and self-love”. Variety simply declared Rare to be, “One of the best pop albums released in recent memory”.

Ahead of the LP’s release, Gomez dropped the singles ‘Lose You To Love Me’, which hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100, followed by ‘Look At Me’, while Rare’s title track was released 10 January, alongside the album.

Gomez has also launched new ‘Boyfriend’ merch today on her official online store. As a special bonus, fans have the opportunity to help one of two charitable organisations when they make a purchase from the store. One dollar from every item sold, including all merchandise and D2C music products, will benefit the Plus1 COVID-19 Relief Fund. This excludes any ‘Dance Again’ merch, which benefits another worthy cause, the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.

PLUS1 works with leading non-profit organisations including Sweet Relief, Center for Disaster Philanthropy, Trans Lifeline, World Central Kitchen and Partners in Health, while MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund supports members of the music community who have been hit hardest by cancelled tours, postponed events and layoffs amid the coronavirus pandemic.
