A deluxe CD edition of the Staple Singers’ acclaimed Come Go With Me: The Stax Collection box set will be released by Craft Recordings on November 13. The anthology came out in vinyl and digital formats in February and was widely praised for its wide-ranging celebration of one of the most seminal acts in gospel and soul history.

The set presents all of the group’s studio albums Stax, originally released between 1968 and 1974. Contained among that treasure trove of recordings are the family outfit’s best-loved songs, which became and remain landmarks of ther time. They include “I’ll Take You There,” “Respect Yourself,” “If You’re Ready (Come Go with Me),” “Heavy Makes You Happy” and “Be What You Are.”

Each album in the set has been remastered from the original analog masters by Jeff Powell at Take Out Vinyl. The seventh disc offers a selection of rarities, non-album singles and live recordings made at the storied 1972 Wattstax festival.

Come Go With Me: The Stax Collection is housed in a slipcase that also includes a booklet with archival photos and liner notes. These are by American music specialist and curator Levon Williams (formerly of the Stax Museum and the National Museum of African American Music) and folklorist, ethnomusicologist and writer Dr. Langston Wilkins.

“A milestone of American musical history”

When the box set was issued on vinyl and digitally, it prompted high praise from such magazines as Uncut, Mojo and Paste. The latter wrote: “This marvelous run of records sounds brand new in these new all-analog pressings, with the earthy tang of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and the Bar-Kays horn section ripping out of the speakers with hip-shaking fervor…this is a milestone of American musical history, treated with the appropriate levels of respect and reverence.”

All six of the Staple Singers’ albums with Stax were also made available in hi-res 24-bit/192 kHz and 24-bit/96 kHz formats for the first time.

Come Go With Me: The Stax Collection is released as a deluxe CD set on November 13. Pre-order it here.
