Taylor Swift, The 1975, Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish and The Cure were all among the victors at the 2020 NME Awards, which took place at the O2 Academy Brixton on 12 February, where it was hosted by Katherine Ryan and Julie Adenuga.

Taylor Swift picked up the Best Solo Act in the World at the 2020 NME Awards. It was presented by none other than Songwriter Of The Decade, Robyn.

“Robyn, you inspire every single artist doing pop music right now,” Swift said in her acceptance speech.

“I was lucky enough to win this award a couple of years ago, but I wasn’t able to go. But I have one of these awards and I put it in my kitchen, and every single morning when I wake up and go downstairs, there is this middle finger in my face like, ‘Good morning!’. Just a full middle finger putting me in my place: good morning. So it’s amazing to have a matching set. I am honoured and I am very excited about this. I want to say hello and thank you to all of the artists that are here tonight, I am such a fan of all of you. I am inspired by all of you.”

Eilish sent in a video message after being presented her Best Song In The World award for ‘Bad Guy’ by Radio 1’s Clara Amfo. The record-breaking icon said: “Thank you NME for the Best Song In The World award. I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there tonight. Love you guys.”

Lana Del Rey, meanwhile, scooped Best Album In The World at the NME Awards 2020 for her recent release, Norman F_king Rockwell.

Anna Calvi presented the award to Del Rey, who sent in an acceptance video. “Thank you so fucking much,” she said in her clip. “I cannot tell you how much this award means to me. You’ve supported me since 2011, put me on my first cover in London… Honestly, I was thinking about it, and without you guys I don’t even know how much music I’d be making.”

The Cure won Best Festival Headliner. Speaking after being presented the award by Emily Eavis, the band’s legendary frontman Robert Smith hugged Eavis and said: “Thank you very much. I dressed up for this it means a lot getting an award like this, winning a live award. Thank you very much to the NME for this. We had the most fun ever last year and I’m very happy to be the singer in The Cure right now. ”
