Patsy Cline Musical Heads Back To Chicago
The much-performed musical ‘Always…Patsy Cline’ is heading back to a Chicago theatre for the forthcoming holiday season.
The Broadway World website reports that an intimate, 50-seat production by Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre, at the No Exit Café, will open on November 14, as a two-hander starring Christina Hall and Danni Smith, both former stars of ‘Pump Boys and Dinettes.’ The musical has previously been a success at some larger venues in the Chicago area.
Described as the “touching story of Cline’s friendship with one of her fans,” the show portrays the pioneering country star’s life through the eyes of housewife and fan Louise Seger. In the musical, they become friends after meeting before a Cline concert in Seger’s home town of Houston.
‘Always…Patsy Cline,’ by Ted Swindley, is said to be one of the most widely-produced musicals in the US, having been widely performed in American theatres over the last quarter-century since its premiere in 1988. There was an off-Broadway production of the piece in 1997.
The show includes such Cline standards as ‘Crazy,’ ‘Sweet Dreams’ and ‘Walkin’ After Midnight,’ and the new production will be directed by Fred Anzevino. A five-piece band will play and sing backing vocals at the No Exit Café show, under the musical direction of Aaron Benham. Performances will run from November 14 to December 28.
