Jay-Z To Reopen New York’s Webster Hall With Rarities Concert
The rapper will reprise his ‘B-Sides’ shows, featuring deep cuts and rarely performed tracks from his discography.
To celebrate the reopening of New York’s iconic Webster Hall venue following extensive renovation, Jay-Z will perform his ‘B-Sides 2’ concert on 26 April.
The historic venue first opened in 1886 in Manhattan’s East Village and has been shuttered since August of 2017, making it New York’s oldest still-operating venue. Now after 18 months of renovation, the venue will once again open its doors to host the legendary rapper.
“When we were thinking about who would be the right choice to open this legendary venue, we knew it had to be a world-famous New York City icon,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of BSE Global. “No one fits that description better than Jay-Z, who will join an unparalleled list of celebrated performers who have played Webster Hall.”
The New York rapper will reprise his ‘B-Sides’ shows, which initially took place at New York’s Terminal 5 in May 2015, featuring deep cuts and rarely performed tracks from his discography. This also marks the first time the hip-hop icon is playing the venue.
General public tickets for the show will go on sale on Friday, 19 April at 11 am EST, and 18 April for American Express members.
“In renovating one of New York’s most historic and iconic venues, our goals were simple and straightforward; maintain the integrity of the space, modernize it to create an incredible concert experience for fans and performers, and book a dynamic mix of artists in music today,” said AEG Presents CEO Jay Marciano in a statement.
In addition to Jay Z, the venue also announced an exciting slate of performers in the coming year which includes Patti Smith, Built to Spill, Rosalia, MGMT, Broken Social Scene, Real Estate and more.
Just last month, the rapper took home the President’s Award at the NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles as well as the Vanguard Award at GLAAD Media Awards, which recognize and honour those for their “fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community.
