Following a declaration in January to spend more time at his piano than at a laptop, James Blake shared the second in a series of covers on his socials earlier today – a heart-wrenchingly beautiful rendition of Billie Eilish’s solemn ‘When The Party’s Over’, which he declared to be “One of my new favourite songs”.

Much like Eilish’s original recording, Blake’s version is sparse – just his falsetto vocals, softly accompanied by the piano. On his socials, the singer-songwriter tagged Eilish and her brother/collaborator, Finneas O’Connell, adding, “What a ridiculously good song this is”.

Though Eilish – who kicks off the first stop of her Where Do We Go? world tour tonight in Miami – has not yet responded to the cover, Finneas shared the video on Twitter, writing, “On the list of things I feel grateful for, James ranks higher than just about everything”.

‘When The Party’s Over’ follows a stripped-down cover of Frank Ocean’s ‘Godspeed’, which Blake shared in mid-January, much to the overwhelming delight of his fans.

Later this month, the British artist will head to South America for a series of festival dates, including stops at Lollapalooza in Chile, Argentina and Brazil, before heading to Europe for a spring tour in support of his 2019 album, Assume Form.

Blake also looks forward to several high-profile shows coming up later this year, including a set at London’s Hyde Park on 05 July with Kendrick Lamar and Brittany Howard, as well as a 22 August performance at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, where he will be joined by the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Aside from her extensive Where Do We Go? tour, Eilish recently released the UK chart-topper ‘No Time To Die’, the title track for the forthcoming James Bond film. The five-time Grammy Award winner became the youngest artist to write a theme song for the Bond series of films, while the track marks the first Bond theme song to go to No.1 on the UK Singles Chart.
