The Rolling Stones Announce ‘Extra Licks’ Series Of YouTube Premieres
The series comprises a sequence of featurettes, all available digitally for the first time
The Rolling Stones will launch the new weekly series Extra Licks on the band’s official YouTube channel this Sunday (3 May). It comprises a sequence of featurettes, all available digitally for the first time and each to appear as YouTube Premiere.
The first in the series will air on Sunday at 12pm PT/3pm ET/8pm BST. The clips will stream bonus features from six concert films captured during the Stones’ storied career. These include performances from the Voodoo Lounge Tour of 1994 and 2016’s Latin America Ole! Tour. The series is in partnership with the Rolling Stones and Eagle Rock Entertainment, and is exclusive to YouTube.
The YouTube Premieres feature allows artists and their teams to “build anticipation and create a unique moment around a music video release” on YouTube. The feature transforms the way that an audience views and engages with content by creating an event in which both fans and artists directly engage and share the experience in an interactive and communal way.
The Stones’ new single ‘Living In A Ghost Town’ has already given them a hot success on YouTube. Recorded by the band in Los Angeles, London and in isolation, its video premiered exclusively on YouTube and, at this writing, has already had more than 4.5 million views. It also became the Stones’ first-ever No. 1 on iTunes.

The chart appearance of ‘Living In A Ghost Town,’ as reported by uDiscover Music earlier this week, means that they have placed a title on a Billboard chart for each of seven consecutive decades. It was described by The Guardian in the UK as “their best new song in years” and “appealingly sleazy.”
The Times‘ review of the track called it a “slow-paced chug with a tint of reggae” and “a moody stomp that captures the miseries of being in lockdown.”
