With it not being any safer to host a festival that attracts over 80,000 attendees, Bonnaroo 2020 was canceled in its entirety in June. Shooting for a more successful fall festival season in 2021, it was rescheduled for June 17-20. Uncertain of whether it will be safe to proceed at that time, Bonnaroo will now take place from September 2-5 in 2021.

“We want to thank you for being a loyal Bonnaroovian, and we appreciate your patience as we navigate the best options to ensure we can be together on the Farm in 2021,” Bonnaroo organizers expressed in an Instagram caption announcing the festival’s new dates. Fans who have already purchased tickets prior to the rescheduling are being encouraged to roll their tickets over to 2021, however, refunds are available for those who cannot accommodate the fall dates.

Information about the 2021 line-up as well as camping and accommodations will be made available at a later date.

The announcement arrives just a few days after the conclusion of Bonnaroo’s virtual streaming event, dubbed Virtual Roo-Ality that boasted new live performances, unique original content, and archival sets captured at Bonnaroo’s home at Great Stage Park.

The Bonnaroo 2020 line-up originally featured Tame Impala in a Sunday headlining slot alongside Lana Del Rey, Lizzo, Tool, Miley Cyrus, and Vampire Weekend. Festival favorites The 1975, Run the Jewels, Flume, Young Thug, Glass Animals, Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby, and Brittany Howard, among others, were also scheduled to appear.

Launched in 2002 inspired by the big summer concerts of the 60s and 70s, Bonnaroo has since become one of the most popular U.S. music festivals. Initially founded by Superfly and AC Entertainment, Bonnaroo was acquired by Live Nation in 2015. In the festival’s 18-year history, 2020 marks the first time Bonnaroo has ever been canceled.
