Veteran rapper DMX has teased new details for his upcoming album, promising collaborations with the late Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke and Griselda Records’ Benny, Conway, and Westside Gunn.

Speaking on the popular podcast Drink Champs hosted by N.O.R.E. (formerly Noreaga), the rapper revealed the collaborations in response to a question about the inclusion of the new generation of rappers on his upcoming releases. “That’s the kind of new I’m talking about,” he said. Pop Smoke stands out as an artist evidently influenced by both DMX and 50 Cent, presenting as a rap hybrid of the two. The full conversation will be released in the upcoming week.

The forthcoming project from DMX will be his ninth album. His debut studio album It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot arrived via Ruff Ryders and Def Jam in May of 1998. It was followed by Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood that December. From then throughout the early 2000s, DMX was a force in Hip-Hop. His first six albums peaked with the top two positions of Billboard’s Hot 100 and topped the R&B charts. All five of his first albums have been certified Platinum, with his 1999 release And Then There Was X achieving a 5x Platinum certification.

DMX’s most recent album Redemption of the Beast was released in 2015, although it has been disputed by the rapper that he did not approve the project’s release.

In 2020, DMX appeared on the popular live-stream series Verzuz for a friendly music battle against Snoop Dogg. He played his notable songs “X Gon’ Give It To Ya,” “What’s My Name?” and “Get At Me Dog” in addition to collaborations with Aaliyah (“Come Back In One Piece”) and The Lox (“Money, Power & Respect,” which also features Lil Kim).

In 2019, the rapper toured with Three 6 Mafia and Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony while working on new music.
