The announcement comes after Eilish appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to discuss her upcoming documentary Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry and the album she made during the first few weeks of lockdown.

Global Citizen, the international advocacy organization, announced the year-long campaign as well as a series of events with the aim of bettering the planet, across five categories. They include ending COVID-19 and the hunger crisis, resuming learning, and advancing equity as well as protecting the planet.

The detailed framework is supported by leaders of the music and entertainment industry including Eilish, Usher, Coldplay, Hugh Jackman, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas among others.

“While COVID-19 has touched every individual on the planet,” said Chopra Jonas, Global Citizen ambassador, “the pandemic’s impact on the most vulnerable – especially those living in extreme poverty – has been devastating, leaving people worse off than they were, even just a year ago. More than 1.5 billion children have had their education disrupted and millions of families are facing starvation. But the action we take together can make a difference.”

In May, the campaign will also include a global broadcast special. The event will be geared towards helping people overcome vaccine hesitancy whilst rallying governments across the world to equalize vaccine distribution. The special is said to be in collaboration with the European Commission, the World Health Organization, Italy (as head of the G20), the state of California, and iHeartMedia. More details are expected to be available in the following weeks.

The new plans come on the back of last year’s Global Citizen event One World: Together at Home and Global Goal: Unite for Our Future. The events helped mobilize more than $1.5 billion in cash grants, with over $1.1 billion already disbursed. “A virus anywhere remains a virus everywhere, and our goal is to unite world leaders, artists and entertainers, philanthropists and CEOs to end COVID-19 for all and kickstart a global recovery,” said Hugh Evans, co-founder, and CEO of Global Citizen.

Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry will be released in select theaters via Neon and on Apple TV+ on February 26.
