It has been announced today that GRAMMY Award-winning, multi-Platinum band Imagine Dragons global smash single “Thunder” has received Diamond certification by the RIAA.

With the certification of “Thunder,” Imagine Dragons have notably become the first group in music history to achieve four Diamond singles. “Thunder,” has now joined the band’s previous Diamond certified acclaimed songs “Radioactive” (14x Platinum), “Believer,” (10x Platinum) and “Demons” (10x Platinum), which have all moved 10 million equivalent units (sales and streams).

Imagine Dragon’s “Thunder” debuted in April 2017 as the second single from the band’s third studio album, Evolve. With its irresistible hook, the song quickly became part of the pop culture zeitgeist that year, topping numerous US radio charts including Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs for 24 weeks, Alternative Digital Song Sales (three weeks), Adult Top 40 (seven weeks), and the Mainstream Top 40 chart as well. “Thunder” also reached the top 10 in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Sweden. The song was additionally nominated for a GRAMMY Award for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.”

The diamond certification of “Thunder” follows on the heels of Imagine Dragons presenting their massive and highly-anticipated double-disc album, Mercury — Acts 1 & 2 (Interscope). The 32-track epic album debuted on Friday, July 1 and marks the boldest artistic statement of the band’s career thus far.

Executive produced by Rick Rubin, the double album includes hit singles “Enemy,” “Bones,” and “Sharks” and expands on 2021’s Mercury — Act 1. While Act 1 explores themes such as love, faith, pain, passion and loss, Act 2 focuses on sorting through personal loss and the biggest existential questions of their career.

About the album, lead singer Dan Reynolds says, “Mercury – Act 1 is focused on the immediacy of death. What does that sound like? What does that feel like? Mercury — Act 2is focused on the process that comes after. So it’s the coping, the waking up and life has to continue on. When you’ve lost someone you love, life continues. This album is about loss, grief, and life. I think throwing life in there is so important because there is a lot of joy to this record. It’s about being present.”
