The original tune gets a sparkling refresh from the producer, who adds harmonic layers to Crow’s breezy vocals and pounding synths that explode into a melody perfect for the upcoming festival season.

Crow’s “Soak Up The Sun” was the lead single from her fourth studio album, 2002’s C’mon, C’mon. It was recorded as a mood booster following the 9/11 attacks and features backing vocals from Liz Phair. The feel-good single was brought to life with a summery music video, which was filmed on the beach in Oahu, Hawaii. “Soak Up The Sun” hit No.1 on Billboard’s Adult Top 40 chart and became a Gold-selling success. Before Surf Mesa’s modernized version, producers Victor Calderone and Mac Quayle teamed for a 2002 dance remix.

Surf Mesa is known for his viral remixes, including 2019’s “ILY (I Love You Baby).” His breakout song, based on singer Emilee’s cover of Frankie Valli’s 1967 classic “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” classic, gained popularity on TikTok. He’s since released EPs like 2019’s Bedroom and 2023’s Come True, along with collaborations with artists like Fletcher, Gus Dapperton, and Madison Beer.

Crow remains active, releasing her twelfth album Evolution in 2024. In March, she was part of the Ringo & Friends At the Ryman Paramount+ concert special, performing “It Don’t Come Easy” alongside fellow country stars Mickey Guyton and Molly Tuttle at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium in January. On May 1, Crow will host Variety’s inaugural Power of Women: Nashville event, where Mickey Guyton, Kelsea Ballerini, Reba McEntire, and Lainey Wilson will be honored.
