The Pussycat Dolls Release VEVO Footnotes Video for ‘Buttons’ With Snoop Dogg
The new video coincides with the 20th anniversary of the group’s debut album, ‘PCD.’
The Pussycat Dolls are the latest group to be celebrated in a VEVO Footnotes video, exploring their track “Buttons” featuring Snoop Dogg.
The new video coincides with the 20th anniversary of the release of the group’s debut record, PCD. Initially released in 2005, “Buttons” received its well-loved Snoop Dogg remix in summer 2026—the music video now boasts nearly one billion views on YouTube.
Written by Sean Garrett, Jamal Jones and Jason Perry, the track sold two million digital copies in the US, making The Pussycat Dolls the first girl group in history to have three singles achieve the milestone. The single has since been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The VEVO Footnotes documentary explores both the making of the video, directed by Francis Lawrence, and The Pussycat Dolls’ roots as a band. Originally envisioned by choreographer Robin Antin as a burlesque troupe, the group got their start with a residency at Los Angeles institution The Viper Room, hosting a rotating group of guest stars including Christina Aguilera, Carmen Electra, Christina Applegate, and Gwen Stefani.
In 2003, Jimmy Iovine spearheaded the band’s transition into a straight-up girl group, hosting auditions for permanent members with the aim of creating an act that felt like “Moulin Rouge meets The Spice Girls.” Carmit Bachar became the only member from The Pussycat Dolls’ original lineup to stay on—will.i.am recommended frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger to Iovine, after having previously asked her to join The Black Eyed Peas.
“Each member of the Dolls was a world-class talent in their own right—like a winning basketball team, each member had a job to do.” Ron Fair, a producer for the group, shares in the documentary. “It was fun, it was femme expression, it was fashion, great dancing, great hooks, and great club music.”
In a 2006 interview, Scherzinger said the goal of the “Buttons” video was to “go back to the roots of the Dolls, go with the corset vibe, and have it be a little rawer and hotter.” Bachar has echoed this sentiment, calling the video “an ode to where we come from.”
Although the group went on hiatus in 2019, they reunited for a tour in 2019. Their music has continued to draw interest from artists over the decades—just last month, the rising Canadian DJ BLOND:ISH shared a club remix of their hit track “Don’t Cha.”
