Beginning more than half a century ago, Murray’s trailblazing career helped chart a course for subsequent Canadian stars like Céline Dion, Shania Twain, k.d. lang, Alanis Morissette, and Sarah McLachlan. Recording in multiple genres including pop, country, and adult contemporary, she sold more than 55 million albums worldwide and—in a testament to her enduring popularity—has surpassed one billion global streams despite releasing most of her music before the advent of streaming.

Her catalog expanded this year with the release of Here You Are, her first new album in 18 years. Also this year, Murray released “ANNEversary” Editions of three of her classic albums: 1978’s Let’s Keep It That Way, 1979’s New Kind of Feeling, and the 1974 compilation Country. The records included some of her biggest hits, such as “Walk Right Back,” “You Needed Me,” “I Just Fall In Love Again,” “Shadows In The Moonlight,” and “Broken Hearted Me.”

Murray’s list of accolades is extensive. With 1984’s A Little Good News, she became one of only four women to win Album of the Year at the CMA Awards during the 24-year stretch from 1967 and 1990, joining fellow superstars Loretta Lynn, Olivia Newton-John, and KT Oslin. It’s one of three CMA Awards on her mantle, to go along with four Grammys, three American Music Awards, and a record-breaking 26 JUNOs. Murray also co-hosted the CMA Awards alongside Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Kenny Rogers. She’s been recognized as a Companion of the Order of Canada and honored with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Nashville’s Walkway of Stars, and Canada’s Walk of Fame, and is a member of several halls of fame.
