Mollie Elizabeth Confronts Being Misheard on ‘Petty Crimes’
The track follows July’s ‘Puppet Show’ and was produced by Joshua Murty.
Mollie Elizabeth has released her new single “Petty Crimes,” produced by Joshua Murty with string composition by Kyle Gordon and Mark Rudin. The song follows July’s “Puppet Show” and centers on a young woman whose attempts to seek help are repeatedly minimized or misunderstood, pushing her toward increasingly self-destructive behavior. Elizabeth also conceived and directed an accompanying music video that places the story in a hospital setting before sending its protagonist on the run.

Elizabeth drew on her own experiences with the medical system while writing “Petty Crimes.” “In my experience, you have to hit rock bottom as a young woman to be taken seriously by doctors,” she said, explaining that she spent years being misdiagnosed and prescribed medications that did not help her. Elizabeth described the song as a final appeal to be believed when she says something is wrong, and a response to the frustration of feeling that extreme behavior is required before those concerns are heard.
The video extends that idea through a surreal narrative in which Elizabeth appears in a hospital gown as a heroine fleeing her circumstances. She eventually reaches an abandoned shed, where the story takes a more fantastical turn with a tea party attended by rats and a scene involving Elizabeth dancing with an ax. “Petty Crimes” follows “Puppet Show,” which examined beauty standards and was accompanied by a visualizer drawing inspiration from the 1960 The Twilight Zone episode “Eye of the Beholder.”
Earlier in 2026, Elizabeth released “Run Rabbit” on May 20 after sharing “The Mirror” and “Dog Eat Dog.” Her first EP, Dirty Blonde, arrived through Neon Gold Records in June 2025 and featured six tracks, including “Dinner For One.” Raised in Washington state’s Cascade Range, Elizabeth began making songs with a $12 microphone before an early online demo of “Vegas Venetian” drew attention. The 2025 EP was followed by a music video for “Doe Eyes,” directed by Maya Sassoon.
