Soundgarden To Perform At Seattle Seahawks Opening Game

The Seattle Seahawks have announced that they’ve invited Soundgarden to perform during halftime of their opening game of the 2026-2027 NFL season.

The team, which won the 2025-2026 Super Bowl, are set to kick off the NFL season against the New England Patriots tonight at Lumen Field in Seattle.

The band has invited Taylor Momsen, the singer of The Pretty Reckless to perform vocals during the show, alongside Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready.

It was also announced that McCready will perform the National Anthem at the game on behalf of the Washington Innocence Project.

McCready spoke about his job as the National Anthem performer in addition to his relationship with Pearl Jam. “I’m kind of like Soundgarden’s biggest fan,” he explained during a recent stop at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. He explained that when the band would rehearse in Seattle, “I went down there and brought them pizzas just so I could hang out. I love those guys, I love all of them. So being asked to do this by (drummer) Matt (Cameron), I love playing with those guys, and Taylor kills it, she’s got a great voice. You’re going to see something cool at halftime.”

McCready added: “It’s incredibly special, it’s incredibly poignant. It’s intense, you want to do it right. It’s Seattle, we want to play as well as we can for Seattle, because we’re from here, this is our home. It’s a big deal, and that’s an exciting pressure to be part of. And I know how good it’s going to sound because of our over rehearsing. Hopefully people will love it, we’re looking forward to it. I can’t wait. I’ll play with those guys anywhere on the planet.”

In other Soundgarden news, last year, the band had an unexpected song go viral thanks to “Burden In My Hand” being featured during the ending and credits to the seventh and final episode of the second season of HBO’s hit TV series The Last Of Us.
