New Def Leppard Documentary ‘Long Live Def Leppard’ To Arrive In 2027
The film was directed by documentary mainstay Jeff Feuerzeig.
Def Leppard will be the subject of a new documentary entitled Long Live Def Leppard. The film is set to arrive in theaters in early 2027.
Bleecker Street’s Crosswalk division announced the film, noting that the first-ever authorized documentary about the band will be directed by Jeff Feuerzeig, who is known for the 2005 film The Devil and Daniel Johnston.
The film captures the band from their early days in the working class city of Sheffield, England, to their rise as one of the pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal.
“In the summer of ’81, after reading about Def Leppard in Creem, I saw the not-yet-famous band open for Ozzy Osbourne on his first Blizzard of Ozz tour at Asbury Park’s Convention Hall,” said Jeff Feuerzeig, director, writer, and producer. “These young lads from working-class Sheffield were punching far above their weight and playing for keeps. I was smitten, a fan for life. It has been an honor to collaborate with the guys and bring their unique, heartwarming, and often humorous underdog story to the screen. This is not your typical sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll tale. Long live Def Leppard, indeed!”
“Def Leppard is a once in a lifetime rock band, whose story and live performances demand to be seen and heard on the big screen,” added Bleecker Street CEO Kent Sanderson. “Longtime fans and those just being introduced to the group are going to be blown away by this high energy, compelling, and ultimately moving look into this legendary band.”
The film comes at a thrilling time for Def Leppard devotees. Earlier this week, it was announced that a new collection will bring together Def Leppard’s recorded output from 2015–2023. Def Leppard – Volume Four features 2015’s Def Leppard, 2022’s Diamond Star Halos, and 2023’s Drastic Symphonies, plus five LPs of Joe Elliott-curated demos, live recordings, alternate mixes, and collaborations.
The release will be available as an 11-LP box set on 180g vinyl, as well as a 6-CD box set. It will be housed in a rigid slipcase with a hardback book featuring Ross Halfin photography, new band interviews, and liner notes by Paul Elliott.
