KISS Shares Restored 1976 ‘Hard Luck Woman’ Video
The newly restored video comes as the band celebrates the 50th anniversary of ‘Rock And Roll Over.’
KISS has released the official 1976 video for “Hard Luck Woman” on YouTube. The footage was shot at Camp Curtis Guild Armory in Reading, Massachusetts, between November 15 and 21, 1976, as the band rehearsed for its Rock And Roll Over tour. Newly remastered in HD by Andrew Sgambati, the video returns to the period surrounding one of KISS’s best-known 1970s albums and one of its signature singles.
“Hard Luck Woman” appeared on Rock And Roll Over, which was released in November 1976, only eight months after Destroyer. After the more elaborate studio production of its predecessor, KISS sought a more direct approach for the follow-up. The band reunited with producer and engineer Eddie Kramer, whose credits included work with Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, and recorded much of the album at the Star Theatre in Nanuet, New York. The unusual setting helped the group pursue a performance-focused studio sound. Rock And Roll Over ultimately produced two Top 20 singles, “Hard Luck Woman” and “Calling Dr. Love.”
The album is now being revisited for its 50th anniversary with an extensive collection of material from the KISS and UMG archives. Kramer has created a new stereo mix of Rock And Roll Over 50 years after producing the original sessions. The expanded material includes 22 previously unreleased demos, outtakes, and alternate mixes, among them nine Gene Simmons demos and the unfinished instrumental “Queen For A Day.” The project also draws from newly recovered multitrack tapes documenting KISS’s first performances in Japan at Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan in April 1977. Highlights from those shows have been newly mixed by Kramer.
The anniversary campaign also includes a Blu-ray Audio disc featuring Dolby Atmos presentations of both the original album and Kramer’s new 2026 mix, alongside high-resolution stereo versions. Physical editions range from a Super Deluxe collection with a 104-page hardcover book and extensive memorabilia to color vinyl, a zoetrope picture disc, and standalone editions of the Eddie Kramer 2026 Mix. The newly restored “Hard Luck Woman” video offers another look back at the original Rock And Roll Over era as the album approaches its 50th anniversary.
