Sting, Springsteen, Zac Brown For A&E Special
Sting and Bruce Springsteen are among the rock royalty who will take part in the A&E television special Shining a Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America. The two-hour show, to be screened on Friday, 20 November at 8pm ET, looks to promote unity in the wake of such recent tragedies as June’s racially-motivated shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. It will also be screened on all of A&E’s affiliated networks, including History, Lifetime and LMN.
Other heavyweights participating in the show include Ed Sheeran, Pharrell Williams, the Zac Brown Band, Eric Church, John Legend, Pink, Jamie Foxx and Sia. Producers of the event promise a series of unique duets “focused on the themes of reconciliation and positive change in local communities.” The concert will take place two days before the TV screening, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
More big name additions to the bill are promised, and proceeds will be donated to The United Way Worldwide-sponsored Fund for Progress on Race in America.
The TV show will be followed at 10 pm by a one-hour special called Shining a Light: Conversations on Race in America, to feature more artists and community members discussing racial bias and racially motivated violence.
