Trombone Shorty Previews Blue Note Debut With Allen Toussaint Cover

New Orleans musician, actor and philanthropist Trombone Shorty has released his version of ‘Here Come The Girls’ as the lead track from his upcoming debut album for Blue Note, Parking Lot Symphony, due on 28 April.

The single is his version of the song written by one of the Crescent City’s favourite sons, the late Allen Toussaint, and first recorded by Ernie K-Doe in 1970. That recording won a new audience, especially in the UK, when it was used in advertising campaigns by retailers Boots in 2007 and 2008.

Shorty and his band Orleans Avenue are currently on an extensive tour opening for Red Hot Chili Peppers, which arrives at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles tonight (7 March) and plays two further shows there. The itinerary also featured three sellout nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden in February.

Treme ThreauxdownOn 29 April, Shorty and the band will host their third annual Treme Threauxdown in New Orleans, again featuring special guests from the city and beyond, before they appear at the 2017 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in May.
