Metallica’s Acclaimed ‘WorldWired’ Tour Smashes UK Attendance Records
Metal legends Metallica have set new attendance records at each of the shows they played on their recent UK tour. The band’s WorldWired tour – presented by Live Nation – played 5 sold out UK Arena shows in October to ecstatic reviews. Metro’s review dubbed the band “exciting and innovative”, whilst The Times noted that they were “powerful enough to get over 20,000 fans punching the air in unison” and Kerrang! suggested they were “jaw-droppingly awesome”.
The band’s ground breaking in-the-round production not only gave fans a totally immersive live experience but also allowed for an increased venue capacity.
Long acknowledged as one of the greatest live bands of their generation, Metallica pulled in a crowd of 22,134 at their opening night of their UK WorldWired stint at London’s O2 Arena. The following night they broke their own record for the best attended single concert performance by one headliner with a crowd of 22,211. It was the same story on the rest of the tour, a crowd of 13,111 packed into Glasgow’s Hydro to set a new attendance record and in Birmingham Metallica drew in a record breaking crowd of 15,604.

Metallica’s most recent album Hardwired…To Self Destruct was released on 18 November 2016 on the band’s own Blackened Recordings record label and debuted at No 1 around the world, selling over 800,000 copies worldwide in its first week. The album was produced by Greg Fidelman with frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich.
As previously reported on uDiscover Music, Metallica are also re-issuing their landmark third album Master of Puppets on 10 November. The new edition of the album has been remastered for the most advanced sound quality and it will be available in digital and physical configurations, including a limited edition box set.
