Wet Wet Wet will be returning to their roots playing two intimate shows in Glasgow and London to introduce their new singer Kevin Simm, who is best known for his time in noughties pop sensation Liberty X and as winner of the 2016 series of The Voice.

As bass player Graeme Clark explains, the moment Simm sang with the group it was obvious that he was the man for the job. “From the first song we played together, ‘Julia Says’, we knew instantly, I knew pretty much in the first 30 seconds. He puts me back in touch with that soul feeling we had when we first started”. Keyboard player Neil Mitchell agrees, “It just worked, it just seems natural to me.”

Kevin Simm is equally effusive of the band saying, “I was really taken aback – the opportunity to join a band with such amazing songs and great guys and a great fanbase really excites me. When I first started gigging around the pubs and clubs up North two songs that were always in my set were ‘Goodnight Girl’ and ‘Love Is All Around’.”

Bursting onto the scene out of Glasgow in 1987, Wet Wet Wet have gone on to sell over 15 million albums and singles, spent over 500 weeks on the UK charts and sold hundreds of thousands of gig tickets.

Original singer Marti Pellow departed the group last year and while the band wish him well, they feel as though they still have something to say musically. Drummer Tommy Cunningham says: “All credit to Marti, he said he couldn’t give 100% to Wet Wet Wet . We were only managing two or three shows a year, and as a musician, you can’t do that.”

The band are excited at the prospect of recording new material with their new frontman, with Graeme Clark saying: “What’s really exciting me is how this is going to manifest itself going forward, we’re going to go out and do dates, and after that, we’ll write some songs”.

Wet Wet Wet play Glasgow, Saint Luke’s on Friday, 16 November and London, 229 on Tuesday 20th November 2018. Tickets for both shows go on sale at 9am on Friday, 28 September.
