Heaton & Abbott Reunite For New Album

Published on

Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, former members of multi-million-selling band the Beautiful South, have confirmed the October 23 release on Virgin EMI of their second album together, ‘Wisdom, Laughter & Lines.’ It follows last year’s ‘What Have We Become,’ which debuted on the UK chart at No. 3 and went on to be certified gold.

The first single from the new set is ‘The Austerity of Love,’ which is set to receive its first airplay on Ken Bruce’s BBC Radio 2 show tomorrow (September 8). The duo will support ‘Wisdom, Laughter & Lines’ with a nine-date UK tour in the autumn, beginning on October 28 in Colne. The following night, they’ll play the Electric Ballroom in London.

Jacqui is one of the best singers I’ve worked with and is also part of my past,” says Heaton. “This new album came together easily because we work so well together. The album title derives from a line in one of the songs and it sort of sums up where I am in life.”

Adds Abbott: “It feels like this album is little more of an upbeat mix of songs. There were some on the previous album but this time the tempo and mood seem to flow in a more consistent way, which has been great to listen back to and be part of. The experience is so much more enjoyable when you can laugh and feel comfortable, this is exactly how I feel working with Paul and the band.”
