The 20th anniversary digital edition of Eminem’s landmark The Slim Shady LP has been expanded and is out now. It included bonus tracks, rarities, a capellas, freestyles, and instrumentals.
Originally released on 23 February 1999, The Slim Shady LP turned Eminem from an underground rapper into a high-profile celebrity. The album featured production from Dr. Dre, the Bass Brothers, and Eminem himself. The Slim Shady LP was his first album with a major label – Aftermath Productions/Interscope – after his first album Infinite was released on an independent label in 1996. The majority of the album’s lyrical content is written from the perspective of the rapper’s alter ego Slim Shady, whom the rapper created on 1997’s ‘Slim Shady’ EP.
The album provided Eminem with a number of firsts. The first official single, ‘My Name Is’, peaked at number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his first entry on that chart. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album and after Interscope awarded Eminem with his own imrpint, Shady Records, he embarked on an extensive touring schedule to promote the album.
The Slim Shady LP went on to be certified quadruple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and has sold over 18 million copies worldwide. Most of the rare bonus tracks on the new expanded edition are making their digital download and streaming debuts.
