Beck Shares New Single ‘Dear Life’ And Announces Album Details

After teasing a new album earlier this month, Beck’s highly anticipated new album Colors gets an official release date for 13 October and a snappy new lyric video for the single ‘Dear Life’, out on Capitol Records and available for pre-order.

Having arrived just in time in the swan song of summer, the upbeat and piano-driven single reflects the new pop-heavy direction the singer is headed in, a stark contrast to the country-inflected folk LP, Morning Phase, which won the Grammy for Album of the Year, as well as Best Rock Album back in 2014.

‘Dear Life’ comes on the heels of two previously released Colors tracks, the experimental electro-pop ‘Wow’ and the riff-laden radio-friendly single, ‘Dreams’.

Working with Greg Kurstin (the Grammy-award winning producer behind Adele and Sia’s biggest albums), Kurstin and Beck produced the majority of Colors with the exception of ‘Wow’ and ‘Fix Me’

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Beck discussed the pop sound he was meticulous crafting, saying:

“These are complex songs all trying to do two or three things at once,” he said. “It’s not retro and not modern. To get everything to sit together so it doesn’t sound like a huge mess was quite an undertaking.”

The lyric video doesn’t disappoint either. While many of these videos usually act as stand-ins until a more fully-realized video is released, the lyric video for ‘Dear Life’ was directed by Jimmy Turrell, Laura Gorun and Brook Linder with animation from Drew Tyndell and Rhiannon Tyndell and creates a kaleidoscopic world which seems perfectly in tune with the Beck universe.

Beck is currently in the middle of a North American tour and is set to open for U2 during a string of dates starting 3 September in Detroit and wrapping 22 September in San Diego. Colors will also be available in a limited edition deluxe vinyl format featuring two 180g 45rpm red vinyl LPs in a special die-cut gatefold package, with a customizable color transparency cover and 24-page booklet.

Beck’s Colors is set for release on 13 October and is available for pre-order here. Scroll down for full tracklisting and tour dates and explore our dedicated Beck Artist Page.
