Brittany Howard recorded a jubilant cover of Jackie Wilson’s “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher” exclusively as an Amazon Original. The classic tune is a live favorite of Howard’s – performed most notably for Jools Holland’s 2020 New Year’s Eve special.

Howard’s bluesy vocals shine in her rendition of Wilson’s hit, which topped the US R&B chart and peaked at No.6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the fall of 1967. The song, which landed just shy of the Top Ten in the UK (reaching No.11), has been covered by countless artists, including Dolly Parton, The Dells, Rita Coolidge, and Bruce Springsteen. Amazon Prime subscribers can listen to Howard’s version here.

Howard is a little less than a week away from the Grammys – where she’s not only up for five awards but will also perform. The Alabama Shakes frontwoman’s solo debut, Jamie, is up for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Howard’s song “Stay High” is nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, while her track “Goat Head” is up for Best R&B Performance. Song “Short and Sweet,” also off Jamie has a nod for Best American Roots Performance.

Other artists taking the stage at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards include six-time nominee Taylor Swift, first-time nominees BTS (whose song “Dynamite” is up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance), and Billie Eilish, whose single “Everything I Wanted” is up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance, in addition to her Bond theme song “No Time to Die,” which is up for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Mickey Guyton, DaBaby, Black Pumas, Post Malone, and HAIM are also among this years’ performers.

The 63rd annual Grammy Awards air live from Los Angeles’ Staples Center on CBS on Sunday, March 14.
