“The Darkness That You Fear,” The Chemical Brothers’ latest single, has been remixed by American DJ and producer, The Blessed Madonna. The remix pays homage to the upbeat, joyful tones of the original track, but brings a new, heavier dimension through its intense, big-room beats; the song arrives just in time for the start of summer and festival season.
The track continues on from DJ/Producer HAAi’s recent disco-drenched tech remix of the track. In a clever twist, the visualizer for The Blessed Madonna mix of “The Darkness That You Fear” also ‘remixes’ Ruffmercy’s abstract and hallucinogenic clip for the original track.
In support of independent record stores, The Chemical Brothers have just released an exclusive 12” vinyl of “The Darkness That You Fear” for Record Store Day. The release features a B-side with new track “Work Energy Principle” which is set for digital release in July. “The Darkness That You Fear” has been chosen by the BBC as the official track to this year’s EUFA Euro 2020, which is now in full swing.
Throughout the summer, The Chemical Brothers will bring their captivating and world-renowned headlining set to three iconic stages across the UK. The duo will play Latitude Festival (Saturday July 24), Creamfields Festival (Friday August 27) and Glasgow’s TRNSMT Festival (Sunday September 12).
Back in April, the Brothers released a thrilling video to accompany “The Darkness That You Fear,” their first new music since 2019’s No Geography – a record described by Q as having “the dizzying, adaptive plasticity of their best work” and “vividly melodic, restlessly inventive” by Uncut.
Regarding the track, The Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands said: “‘The Darkness That You Fear’ is a hopeful piece of music. When we found the combination of the different voices worked set to the flow of the music it made us feel optimistic, like it was something we wanted to share.”
