Keith Urban has shared the video for his current Hit Red/Capitol Nashville hit song ‘God Whispered Your Name.’ The clip was partly filmed in the desert mountains near Lancaster, California, and captures the zeitgeist of our present global situation during the coronavirus pandemic.
The video, directed by Jennifer Massaux, shows the country star trapped in a dimly-lit basement area, in which one room is completely flooded. This segment was filmed in rooms under a warehouse in Nashville that Urban describes as “literally the darkest, dank and smelly place.”
Searching for an escape, he eventually breaks out of his dark prison and emerges into the wide open mountain scenery. The scene is realised with footage from drone cameras, in a video that reflects the song’s lyrical sentiment about the power of love.
‘God Whispered Your Name’ was released in late February. It climbs 24-21 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart for the week of 4 April. Its appearance coincided with the announcement that Urban would host the Academy of Country Music Awards show, which was scheduled for tonight (5) before the COVID-19 outbreak forced its postponement until 16 September.
‘ACM Presents: Our Country’ special
Instead, in the same slot, Urban will tonight be among the myriad of stars contributing music performed at home, in the two-hour special ACM Presents: Our Country. The show will feature classic footage from the history of the awards and new performances by a remarkable line-up in including Carrie Underwood, Thomas Rhett, Shania Twain, Eric Church and Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani.
Others on the bill include Sheryl Crow, Lady Antebellum, Brandi Carlile, Luke Combs, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley & Darius Rucker, Kelsea Ballerini, Dierks Bentley, Florida Georgia Line, Little Big Town, Kane Brown & John Legend, Luke Bryan, Old Dominion and Miranda Lambert.
