Ken Carson Drops New EP ‘cartunez’

Ken Carson has dropped a new EP, cartunez, right after kicking off his U.S. headline tour. The 13-track project features collaborations with Destroy Lonely, ApolloRed, and OsamaSon.

cartunez is the follow-up to the Atlanta rapper’s fifth studio album, xperiment, which was released just recently in July. Xperiment impressively debuted at number seven on the Billboard Hot 200 and number two on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

The 26-year old recently spoke to Complex about the new EP: “I feel like on xperiment I was shying away from my natural sound,” he shared. “On cartunez, I’m not really doing that at all.” He added that the EP is for his early fans: “This is definitely for my day one. It’s also an addition to it, too. It’s not just old songs or whatever. It’s like new shit that people never heard, too.”

Xperiment featured production from longtime collaborators M, F1LTHY, Lucian, and Clif Shayne as well as rising rapper 2hollis, who produced “shadeson.” The album also includes a stacked lineup of features, including Destroy Lonely on “shopping,” Lil Uzi Vert on “ghost,” Young Thug on “drug kit,” and Playboi Carti on “deaf note.”

Carson kicked off his U.S. headline “xperimenting Tour” at Huntington Bank Pavilion in Chicago on August 26th. The 17-date run will continue across major cities including Boston, NYC, Miami, Atlanta, Austin, and more before concluding in San Francisco on September 23rd. The tour follows a string of international summer festival appearances, including Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Splash! Festival in Germany, Openair Frauenfeld in Switzerland, Clout Festival in Poland, and Frequency Festival in Austria. In June, Carson played his first Sunday headlining set at Rolling Loud California.
