Released in May, the original version of ‘Before You Go’ was Capaldi’s first new track since his much-heralded debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent was released through Virgin EMI in May 2019 and reached the top spot in the UK charts. The album was certified Gold one week after its release, making it the best-selling debut album from a British artist in more than eight years.

Heralding its release, the Scottish singer-songwriter also took to Instagram to release a statement about “Before You Go” calling it the “most personal” song he’s put out so far. He wrote, “The past year has been absolutely wild, didn’t in a million years think all of this stuff would happen to me.

The new version of “Before You Go” arrives as Capaldi has been nominated for a VMA for PUSH Best New Artist. The VMA’s are LIVE from NYC on August 30. Fans can vote across 15 gender-neutral categories at the VMAs official website from now until August 23, with voting for “Best New Artist” continuing into the show on August 30.

As was recently reported, Lady Gaga was announced as the latest addition to the all-star roster of performers at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. The August 30 appearance will mark her first live outing for Chromatica.

Gaga will join a high-profile line-up of performers, including BTS, The Weeknd, J Balvin, Doja Cat, Roddy Ricch, Maluma, and CNCO. Gaga’s anticipated set will mark her first for the VMAs since 2013.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the 37th annual MTV Video Music Awards would not take place, as planned, at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Citing concerns amid the coronavirus, the VMAs will instead “pay homage to the incredible resiliency of New York with several outdoor performances around the City with limited or no audience, adhering to all state and city guidelines.”
