Last night, 3 March, Lewis Capaldi performed live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (Home Edition) performing ‘Before You Go’ from the comfort of his own home.
Lewis Capaldi is no stranger to The Tonight Show as he performed his global breakthrough hit, ‘Someone You Loved’ on the show in October 2019. In last night’s episode, meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon also interviewed Miley Cyrus and Rachel Brosnahan, the star of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Originally released in November 2019, ‘Before You Go’ is Capaldi’s first new track since his much-heralded debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent was released through Virgin EMI in May 2019 and reached the top spot in the UK charts. The album was certified Gold one week after its release, making it the best-selling debut album from a British artist in more than eight years.
At the time ‘Before You Go’ was released, the Scottish star took to Instagram to release a statement about the new song, calling it the “most personal” song he’s put out so far. He wrote, “The past year has been absolutely wild, didn’t in a million years think all of this stuff would happen to me.
“Less than two years ago, I was lucky enough to get to gig in small pubs and bars back home in Scotland and somehow am writing this with a Number 1 single in America.”
Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent includes the top 10 singles ‘Grace’ the UK and US number one single ‘Someone You Loved’ and ‘Hold Me While You Wait’, among several previously included on Capaldi’s early EPs.
It was also confirmed this week that Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent has not left the Top 10 of the UK album charts since its release – 42 weeks ago. This makes it the highest selling album of both 2019 and 2020.
