Rising UK pop star Mabel continues her hot streak with the release of her thumbing new single, ‘Boyfriend’, via Polydor Records.

Like her previous hit, ‘Don’t Call Me Up’, Mabel delivers another empowering anthem with ‘Boyfriend’ that features a bumping production to back up her call to arms.

Co-written by Mabel and fellow-hitmakers Steve Mac and Camille Purcell (the trio worked together previously on ‘Don’t Call Me Up’ and ‘Mad Love’), ‘Boyfriend’ is Mabel’s first official solo single since dropping her debut album High Expectations, which debuted at No.3 on the UK albums chart last year. Recently she teamed up with Tiësto on the hit collab, ‘God Is A Dancer’.

In the accompanying video, the pop singer channels 90s R&B diva Aaliyah with her throwback fashion and choreography. In a gender-reverse flip of 80s cult hit Weird Science, Mabel and her crew design their ideal boyfriends in a high-tech computer lab, as she engineers her perfect partner.

“Wrote this song with the dream team Camille Purcell and Steve Mac to remind u all that wanting someone in your life doesn’t mean you can’t still be dat b_ch,” tweeted Mabel following the song’s release.

‘Boyfriend’ comes hot on the heels of Mabel winning Best British Female at this year’s BRIT Awards, where she also performed a rendition of ‘Don’t Call Me Up’, and was joined on the red carpet by her mom, Neneh Cherry, 30 years to the date of her own BRIT win.

The 24-year-old pop star continues her headlining tour this month, as well as heading out on the summer festival circuit including Lovebox, Parklife, Primavera Sound, Longitude and Reading and Leeds. View her current tour itinerary below.
