The Oscar Peterson Trio’s West Side Story is set for a single-LP gatefold reissue in the Verve Acoustic Sounds Series. The 1962 album interprets selections from Leonard Bernstein’s Broadway score through a piano, bass, and drums ensemble.

Norman Granz produced the recording, which features Peterson on piano, longtime bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Ed Thigpen. The program includes “Jet Song,” “Tonight,” “I Feel Pretty,” and “Somewhere,” bringing music written for the stage into the trio’s jazz repertoire.

The album forms part of Peterson’s recurring interest in stage works across his Verve recordings. His discography also includes interpretations of music from Porgy & Bess and Fiorello!, placing West Side Story within a broader strand of projects devoted to musical theater.

Matthew Lutthans masters Verve Acoustic Sounds Series titles from the original analog tapes. The records are pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings and packaged in tip-on gatefold jackets, the format used for this edition of West Side Story.
