Stromae Selling By The Million
Multi-million-selling Belgian star Stromae is continuing his spectacular sales achievements, with the news that his ‘Racine Carrée’ album has now sold over three million copies worldwide. He’s now rubbing shoulders with the likes of Lorde, Haim and Q-Tip by having his track ‘Meltdown’ included on the Virgin EMI soundtrack of ‘The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1.’
Stromae’s most successful single, ‘Papaoutai,’ now has 208 million views on YouTube, while ‘Tous Les Mêmes’ has 62 million. His 2010 breakthrough hit ‘Alors On Danse’ now stands at just under 62 million YouTube views. We have his live performance of ‘Papaoutai’ in Paris for you to watch here:
29-year-old Stromae, born Paul Van Haver, writes and produces all his own material. Racine Carrée’ has spent 27 weeks at No. 1 in France, easily outselling Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’ in the process.
He sold out his UK shows at the Scala and KOKO in London in a matter of minutes and returns to the city for another sold-out show, at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, on December 9. That’s part of a series of European concerts this month which also take in Germany, Switzerland and Italy.
Stromae’s striking live shows have been attracting rave reviews, not only from the world’s press but from fellow artists. Dutch hitmaker Mr. Probz was moved to write on Twitter of a recent performance: “Livest and most creative show I’ve ever seen,” to which Stromae replied: “Thank you for this beautiful compliment.”
