“We worked incredibly hard to create a graphic novel that celebrates the music of Rush, and the creation of the album of A Farewell to Kings as a work of art,” says co-writer and Fantoons creative director David Calcano in a statement. “We think this book will be something for comics and music fans alike to cherish.”

Working with writer Lindsay Lee on the novel, Calcano also sought input from Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson and A Farewell to Kings producer Terry Brown, who wrote the foreword to the book. Meanwhile the artwork comes courtesy of Juan Riera and Ittai Manero.

The graphic novel will be 144 pages and available in hardcover. The band’s official site will also be selling a version that comes with a reproduction of the 1978 tour book.

Later this year, publishers Simon & Schuster will also release an official Rush colouring book, with 70 illustrations inspired by the group’s discography.

The official release for the book describes it as an: “epic, fully authorised graphic novel chronicles the birth of Rush’s classic album A Farewell To Kings. Relive the trials and triumphs alongside Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Neil Peart as they create the masterpiece of progressive rock that gave birth to ‘Closer To The Heart’ and the majestic ‘Xanadu’.”

Released during the height of the punk era, A Farewell to Kings remains Rush’s prog masterpiece, and includes some of their most beloved tracks including ‘Xanadu’, ‘Cinderella Man’ and ‘Closer to the Heart’.

Rush is just one of the projects that Fantoons has brought to life through comics. Their previous projects include titles for Poison and Rob Zombie.

The Making of A Farewell to Kings: The Graphic Novel is set for release on 10 September and can be pre-ordered here.
