Listen To Katy Perry’s Brand New Single, ‘Small Talk’
On the bubbly new track, the US pop star reflects on the awkward moments that ex-lovers experience after breaking up.
Katy Perry has released her new single, ‘Small Talk’, a song she co-wrote with Charlie Puth, Jacob Kasher Hindlin and Johan Carlsson. The song arrives with a colourful, retro-inspired lyric video that centres on a pair of co-workers who used to date. You can check it out below.
The single is a follow-up to her previous offering ‘Never Really Over’, which came out in May and peaked at No. 15 on the US Billboard 100. On the bubbly new track, Perry reflects on the awkward moments that ex-lovers experience after breaking up. “Isn’t it weird that you’ve seen me naked/ We had conversations about forever now it’s about the weather okay/I just can’t believe we went from strangers to lovers to strangers in a lifetime/ Now just memories we’ve gone from strangers to lovers to strangers,” she sings.
Perry’s latest single comes just after the singer took to social media over the past few days to tease its imminent arrival. In a series of Instagram photos tagged as #SmallTalk, she shared scribbles of the song’s lyrics on a notepad embossed with the words, “From the desk of Katy Perry”. The US pop star also teased a few lines of lyrics and its “groovy baby” artwork earlier in the week, and presented it in full Thursday to guests at the Capitol Congress in Los Angeles.
‘Small Talk’ and ‘Never Really Over’ comprise Perry’s first new solo music in two years, following her fifth studio album, 2017’s Witness. Details of her forthcoming sixth album have yet to be announced.
Elsewhere in Katy Perry news, the singer was on hand at the sixth-annual label event to receive a special plaque commemorating 100 million RIAA song certifications. She’s one of only five artists to have topped hit that milestone with their digital singles, according to the trade body, and becomes the first Capitol signing to do so.
