J. Cole’s Dreamville Music Festival Postponed
The North Carolina festival, moved to 29 August, joins the extensive list of events that are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
J. Cole’s second annual Dreamville Music Festival, which was initially scheduled to take place 4 April at Raleigh, NC’s Dorothea Dix Park, has been postponed until 29 August, due to the coronavirus. This announcement joins a growing list of nationwide cancellations and postponements amid the pandemic.
In a statement on the Dreamville website, festival organisers wrote, “Our team is extremely committed to bringing the event to fruition for all our Dreamville family, and we can’t wait to see everyone in August. We are also very appreciative to the City of Raleigh for helping us find a new date so quickly.” They added that all tickets for the April event will not only be honoured for the August date but can also be refunded via the festival’s website if buyers are unable to attend.
While a 2020 lineup of artists had not yet been announced, organisers shared that, “Originally, we were scheduled to announce the festival lineup this week and are now working around the clock to reconfirm all performers scheduled for the April date. We hope to announce the full music lineup as early as next week.” Last year’s inaugural Dreamville Festival – which was also forced to reschedule, due to Hurricane Florence – took place in April, with a lineup that included SZA, 21 Savage, Teyana Taylor, Big Sean and J. Cole himself.

The one-day festival, which marks the first of its kind for the region, is the brainchild of Cole, who was raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The Grammy Award-winning hip-hop artist created Dreamville as an opportunity to give back to his home state – offering a thoughtfully-curated, multi-stage music event that not only features some of the hottest hip-hop and R&B acts but also shines a light on rising local talent, as well as acts signed to Cole’s imprint, Dreamville Records. The festival, which takes place in Raleigh’s largest city park, also celebrates the local culture, hosting some of the city’s favourite food and art vendors.
