Eminem Launches Competition To Support Michigan DJs
The rapper’s “Love Your DJ” contest offers local producers the chance to win money and airplay on his Shade 45 SiriusXM channel.
Eminem is giving back to artists in his native Michigan through the “Love Your DJ” contest, launched in conjunction with his SiriusXM Shade 45 channel and his Marshall Mathers Foundation. The campaign encourages local DJs to submit their own mixes for the chance to win money and airplay.
The rapper announced the hometown contest on Shade 45’s Sway In The Morning, as a way to support DJs who have been impacted by event and club closures due to COVID-19. Entries can be submitted via SiriusXM now through 29 April.
The first 500 qualified entries will not only receive $313 (paying homage to Detroit’s area code) but will also have the chance to hear their mixes on air. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges from Eminem’s Shady Records, who will be listening for sound quality, originality and texture. 15 grand prize winners will be selected to receive airplay of their mixes, beginning 2 May, on Shade 45’s Love Your DJ Mixshow Takeover, hosted by Eminem himself.
Eminem established his Marshall Mathers Foundation in 2002 to provide assistance to disadvantaged and at-risk youth in Detroit, Michigan and its surrounding communities.
Currently, the rapper can be seen in the new Netflix documentary, LA Originals. Directed by Estevan Oriol, the feature is billed as, “An exploration of the culture and landmarks of the Chicano and street art movement that cemented [tattoo artist] Mister Cartoon and [photographer] Oriol’s status as behind-the-scenes hip hop legends”. The documentary includes interviews with Eminem, along with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Blink-182 and Cypress Hill.
Earlier this year, the artist surprised fans with his 11th studio album, Music To Be Murdered By. Produced by Eminem and Dr Dre, the 20-track LP features such high-profile names as Young MA, Royce da 5’9” & White Gold, Ed Sheeran, the late Juice WRLD, Skylar Grey, Black Thought of The Roots, Q-Tip, Denaun, Anderson Paak, Don Toliver, KXNG Crooked, and Joell Ortiz.
